In both my personal and professional life as a physician, I’ve been working with the LGBTQIA+ community for more than fifteen years. Notably, I served on the board of Doorways, a housing and healthcare service for people living with HIV/AIDS, from 2010-2020, was Chairperson of the Board for four years, and was granted the Michael Edlin Award from that organization in 2020. I’ve led numerous LGBTQ+ focused initiatives and associate resource groups in my time working in hospitals and private industry. I’m also active in the St. Louis Sex Positive community, and my practice is affirming for a wide range of lifestyle choices. We offer PrEP, discrete STI screening, and affirmation for those with unique relationship circumstances. Truth is, I’m still learning a lot, every day. I’m a cisgender straight man, and my lived experience doesn’t reflect that of the patients I serve. But I listen to my patients and learn a lot from them, and try every day to do a little bit better job supporting this community which I love.

We are growing an LGBT+ space on the VSC, to provide social connection and support to those experiencing social isolation. There will be LGBT+ classes and discussion groups that will focus on a range of topics, from fun to educational. Members also have access to the wider VSC community and class programming. We have partnered with Stonewall Village NYC, a network of community groups and organizations in New York, to kick start our programming. Now, we are looking to share this opportunity with a larger region. The VSC is a vibrant community of older adults across the United States that engage in daily live classes from the comfort of their homes. The VSC offers a secure, older adult friendly platform that provides access to individuals and communities to engage in live, interactive classes, live chats, recorded content, curated links and games, and more. Started over a decade ago to combat social isolation and loneliness in older adults, VSC has continuously adapted to new technologies and opportunities to support the evolving needs of our communities.
