The Crime Victim Center of St. Louis (CVC) was founded in 1972 as the first victim service agency in the nation. Our mission is to empower individuals impacted by crime to move from crisis to resilience. We offer a wide range of services for individuals, communities, and other organizations and institutions seeking to improve their services to victims of crime. We provide resources, counseling, advocacy, legal assistance, and referrals for thousands of victims of crime and their families in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. Services are free of charge and the crime does not have to have been reported to law enforcement to receive services. CVC has different advocacy programs to provide direct services to victims and their families. Our advocates assist victims of intimate partner violence, homicide, sexual assault, nonfatal gun violence, and families/juveniles in crisis. Our counselors provide trauma-specific interventions including person-centered therapy, complex grief counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Play Therapy, and Hypnotherapy. We see ages 6 and older. Our Legal Assistance Program addresses the needs of victims who are indigent and under-served by providing services that combine expertise in domestic violence issues, including legal advocacy, safety planning, legal referrals, and legal representation for Orders of Protection.
