The Crime Victim Center of St. Louis (CVC) was founded in 1972 as the first victim service agency in the nation. Their mission is to empower individuals impacted by crime to move from crisis to resilience. CVC offers a wide range of services for individuals, communities, and other organizations and institutions seeking to improve their services to victims of crime.
CVC provides resources, counseling, advocacy, legal assistance, and referrals for thousands of victims of crime and their families in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. Services are free of charge and the crime does not have to have been reported to law enforcement to receive services.
Advocacy programs include: Assisting victims of intimate partner violence, homicide, sexual assault, nonfatal gun violence, and families/juveniles in crisis.
CVC counselors provide trauma-specific interventions including: Person-centered therapy, complex grief counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Play Therapy, and Hypnotherapy. (Ages 6 and older)!
Legal Advocates for community members facing partner violence, sexual assault, or stalking: CVC offers crime victims in St. Louis pro bono legal representation services by assisting in the procurement of Adult and Child Order of Protection hearings for those surviving intimate partner violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Service area includes these Missouri counties: St. Louis City and County, Jefferson, Franklin, Warren, and Washington. Also provides legal information on issues related to survivors of these crimes regardless of geographic location, as well as advocacy and safety planning.
