City Union Mission (DO NOT REFER)

City Union Mission in KC is notoriously transphobic, not allowing trans people to room with people who share their gender identity, and have also been known to turn away queer couples. This fall, we also learned that an upper admin/leader within that organization recently kicked their queer teenager out of the house when he refused to seek "therapy" for his queerness. I am not sure STL folks ever seek KC resources. but I would never recommend City Union Mission. Go-to shelter recommendations for the KC area are Restart and Save, Inc. both of which have 24/7 hotlines and can help with emergency shelter, transitional housing, and other services. For youth and young adults, there are two queer-focused, queer-led shelters: Lion House and Pride Haven.
