Description
AmeriCorps St. Louis is a nonprofit based in the Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. Hosts an 11 month AmeriCorps National Service program, the Emergency Response Team with three areas of focus: Disaster Response, Environmental Stewardship, and Wildland Fire. Services for unhoused community members include the Winter Warming Shelter and Weekly Outreach Services.
ACSTL focuses on the training and development of the next generation of public service leaders while building the capacity of partner agencies to achieve impactful community results. AmeriCorps Members serve within a 42-Member Corps for 11-month terms, earning a monthly living stipend and an AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of their term.
Winter Warming Shelter:
- Emergency shelter that operates between Dec 1 - mid March and activates when temperatures are at 25 degrees or below. In that period they are typically available Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. In partnership with St. Louis Winter Outreach.
- A total of 65 beds are available for people of all backgrounds and gender identities. LGBTQ+ community members are specifically identified as a group that is encouraged to seek services without fear of discrimination. ADA accessible and accepts service or emotional support animals.
Weekly Outreach:
- Currently offers weekly outreach services to people in the community who do not have a permanent residence. Services take place each Tuesday from 8:00AM - 1:00PM. No appointment needed. In Soulard, 1315 Ann Ave.
- Hot Breakfast, lunch, snacks, hot showers, toiletries & hygiene items, clean clothing, laundry, mail pickup, and haircuts.
- (Subject to availability) Mobile Health Clinic provided by Washington University, behavioral and mental health services provided by Places for People, Veterans Affairs (housing assistance), and Addiction Services.
Shelter volunteers completed one trans competency training with THISTL Oct. 2025 and declined policy review offer. States that they serve all regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation and do not discriminate.
