Personal Experience with a Resource

I was admitted to the behavioral health unit at SSM DePaul for suicidal ideation and my experience was overall a negative one. I was given a room of my one because I am transgender, a few of the staff repeatedly misgendered me, but most of them were respectful. The main complaint is a lack of actual mental health services in the hospital. Other then 1 group a day focusing on coping skills or some other behavioral health aspect no other resources were provided to me while at hospital to set me up for success once I was released. All the other groups consisted of recreational therapy of playing cards or board games which I did not find helpful. The psychiatrist seem overly eager to jump to extreme forms of treatment such as ect. A decision my neither my therapist or my doctor at Southampton Healthcare agreed with.
